Tile in Wilsonville, OR

Tile showers are one of the things we specialise in, and they are the job in this trade where the difference between good and bad work is completely invisible on handover day. Anyone can set tile that looks straight. What determines whether a shower is still sound in fifteen years is the waterproofing system behind it, and that is the part we will talk to you about first. Installed by our own crew across Wilsonville.

Tile in Wilsonville

Built for Wilsonville homes.

Wilsonville is the fastest-changing town on our list. It incorporated in 1968 with about 1,000 residents and reached 26,664 by 2020. Charbonneau, on the south side of the Willamette, was annexed in 1971. Villebois came far later, built out on the former Dammasch State Hospital grounds after they closed in 1995. Those two ends of town need completely different work: a fifty-year-old planned community on one side of the river, and some of the newest houses in the region on the other.

In Villebois and the newer builds the subfloor is flat and square and the job moves fast — the decisions are about product and finish, not repair. Charbonneau is the other half of our work here: homes now over fifty years old, many single-level, where owners are replacing worn carpet with something easier to live on and easier to clean. Wilsonville summers are genuinely warm, with July and August averages near 87 degrees, and the town recorded 116 degrees on June 28, 2021, against December lows around 34.

A house that swings that far needs its flooring acclimated properly and gapped correctly at the walls. That heat record is the best argument we can give for not rushing an install.

Wilsonville FAQs

Tile in Wilsonville, questions

We just bought in Villebois. Is it better to do floors before we move in?

Almost always, yes. An empty house means no furniture moving, no working around a family, and a faster, cleaner install. If you are between closing and moving day, tell us the date and we will work to it.

What do you recommend for a single-level Charbonneau home?

Usually luxury vinyl plank through the main living areas with carpet kept to bedrooms. It is warm underfoot, it handles spills and pet traffic, and running one continuous floor with flush transitions removes the small height changes that become trip hazards. If wall-to-wall carpet is preferred, we would spec a dense low-pile rather than a plush.

Do you repair an existing tile shower?

Generally not, and it is better to say so up front. We do not take on repair work for hard surface flooring, tile or countertops on projects we did not install. With a shower the reason is specific: the waterproofing is buried behind the tile, we cannot inspect it, and patching the visible part of a system that may already have failed does you no favours. If we built it, that is a different conversation.

Is grout waterproof?

No, and this is the most common misunderstanding about showers. Grout is a filler between tiles and it lets water through. Sealing it helps with staining and slows things down, but the thing actually keeping water out of your wall is the membrane and pan behind the tile. That is why we spend the time there rather than on the part you can see.

How long does a tile shower take?

Longer than people expect, because the sequence has waiting in it — the waterproofing has to cure before tile goes on, and the setting mortar has to cure before grouting. Rushing any of those stages is how failures start. We will give you a realistic schedule at the estimate, including the days when nothing appears to be happening.

Can I have a large-format tile on the shower floor?

On the walls, easily. On a shower floor it is more constrained, because the floor has to fall to the drain and a large rigid tile cannot follow a slope in two directions without help. Smaller formats or a mosaic conform to the fall naturally, which is why you see them on shower floors so often. We will show you what works with the pan we are building.
